The Early Childhood Education Program at Mohave High School is a FACS Program!

This Program is designed to prepare students for a variety of careers working with young children. The program includes instruction in child development, child health, nutrition, and safety, as well as, the planning and facilitation of developmentally appropriate play and learning activities.  Child guidance, family relationships, and parenting are also addressed. In addition to technical skills, students completing our program will also develop advanced critical thinking, applied academics, career development, and employability and life skills.

The Program curriculum is designed around the following four integral components:
  1. Formal and technical instruction

  2. Project based learning

  3. Supervised occupational experience

  4. Participation in Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (Career and Technical Student Organization)

Mohave HS Early Childhood Program follows these National FACS Standards:

4.5-Demonstrate skills for building and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with children, youth, and adults in their family and community environments.

  • 4.5.1- Apply developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive guidelines for behavior.

  • 4.5.2- Demonstrate problem-solving and decision making skills when working with children, youth, and adults.

  • 4.5.3- Demonstrate interpersonal skills that promote positive and productive relationships with learners. 

  • 4.5.4- Implement strategies for constructive and supportive interactions between children, youth, adults, and their families and communities.

  • 4.5.5- Analyze learners' developmental progress and summarize developmental issues and concerns.

Upon completion of the 2 year program, advanced students are eligible to receive one or more of the following certifications:  

  • National Child Development Associate Credential (Council for Professional Recognition)
    The first 2 people to complete this credential in our ECE Program was Erika Heistand & Lindsey Clark!

Our Very Own Chapter Adviser, Ms. Leyendecker, won 2017 FACS Teacher of the Year! 

Ms. Leyendecker does an outstanding job as a FACS Teacher! She is constantly integrating FCCLA into her classroom and informing her students of the great benefits that her class provides. 

Rachel Cooper, 2017/2018 AZ State Officer & Chapter Officer Coach, won an $1,000 scholarship from the FACS Ed Board!

Integrating FCCLA

Integrated FCCLA is the practice of incorporating chapter activities and student-directed FCCLA learning experiences in the FACS classroom by:

​

  • Providing activities that put students in charge of their own learning

  • Getting students involved with and excited about learning

  • Sharpening creative and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrating how FACS education guides students to apply academic, leadership and character-related concepts

  • Giving students experience with skills needed for a successful transition from school to career

  • Using FCCLA Star Events to assess students’ mastery of FACS skills and competencies

Outstanding Chapter Award

The Arizona Outstanding Chapter Award is a chapter recognition program designed to encourage Family and Consumer Science students to become leaders and promote FCCLA in their school, community, and state. This award recognizes chapter’s success in and outside of the classroom through self-evaluation and highlights their success!
We are proud to announce that our Chapter received a GoldChapter Award at the 2019 State Leadership Conference for our contribution to the following areas:
